Over-Extrusion
Fix prints with excess plastic, rough surfaces and dimensions that are too large.
Over-extrusion means the printer is depositing more plastic than required.
Symptoms include rough top surfaces, bulging walls, poor dimensional accuracy and excess material around corners.
First, confirm that your slicer has the correct filament diameter and nozzle diameter.
If your printer or slicer allows flow calibration, perform a filament flow or extrusion calibration.
Flow ratio is often slightly different between different filament brands and materials.
Avoid reducing flow dramatically without testing. Small adjustments are normally sufficient.
Temperature can also contribute. Excessively high nozzle temperatures make the filament more fluid and can exaggerate blobs and surface imperfections.
Check that the extruder calibration is correct, particularly if you have changed extruder components or firmware settings.
For modern printers with factory-calibrated extrusion systems, slicer flow calibration is usually more appropriate than altering machine steps.
Print a simple calibration model after making adjustments.
Common causes: excessive flow ratio, incorrect filament diameter, incorrect extrusion calibration, high printing temperature.
