Layer Separation
Fix prints where individual layers split apart or do not bond strongly.
Layer separation occurs when adjacent layers fail to bond together properly.
It is particularly common with materials that require higher temperatures, such as ABS, ASA and some engineering filaments.
Start by checking nozzle temperature. If the filament is being printed too cold, the new layer may not fuse properly with the layer below.
Increase the nozzle temperature gradually within the filament manufacturer's recommended range.
Reduce excessive part cooling.
Check for under-extrusion, as insufficient material can also weaken layer bonds.
For ABS and ASA, an enclosure is often important because rapid cooling creates internal stress.
Avoid cold draughts around the printer.
If layer separation always occurs at the same height, check for mechanical problems or interruptions to extrusion.
Common causes: low nozzle temperature, excessive cooling, under-extrusion, cold chamber, draughts.
